Taking a break from my normal movie review/DIY FX articles, today we're going to talk about
something I've been obsessed with lately. Yes, I'll admit it…I’m obsessed with the Thames River
Creature/Monster/Nessie on vacation/etc.  How am I not supposed to be, though?  Have you seen
the videos?  Have you seen the pics?  It’s awesome!  Let’s get into it:

Exhibit A to begin with – we have a video from Penn Plate uploaded to youtube on March 27th,
2016.  He was just doing a cell phone video from the cable car he was in crossing over the
Thames River next to the O2 center.  Watch the video below (this one from Apex TV), and tell me
that’s not awesome…

You know that’s awesome!  Whatever it is, it’s huge, and it brings out my love of Kaiju, Gojira
and then some.  Me, I think the water moving perfectly and then the shadowing of the creature
under the water is just too perfect to be CGI.  Of course, I’m not saying it can’t be CGI…but if so, it’
s the best I’ve ever seen, and dude will be working in Hollywood pretty soon.

Exhibit B, though – the second video is amazingly even less likely having any CGI going on.
This thing is real.  It’s real!  It’s a kaiju!  We need Gundam suits!  Anyway, again, watch this video
and tell me that’s not awesome…
That’s real, folks.  This creature is a real entity.

Exhibit C adds to the fray – it’s not as clear what is there, but something is absolutely in the
water.  Check it out…
That’s still really cool.  Maybe it was just a weird wave, and I’ll admit to having seen waves
that can pull an optical illusion.  Still, with the other two videos to go off of…it’s a kaiju!!!  YES!

Okay, I’ll try to better contain my excitement.  Let's take a look at a photo now.
(Photo take by Jo Wilde in The Solent from the deck of the Portsmouth Ferry.)
So, via a quick geography lesson (the Thames opens into the ocean on the Southeastern
edge of England, and if you travel just around the Southern coast, you will come to the Isle of
Wight and its channel of water between the two coastlines) we find that these further still pics
show the same oddly humped sea creature.

Maybe I’m just a huge fanboy of water monsters.  Maybe I’m a naïve wisher of wonders in the
oceans to be fanciful.  Maybe, though, it’s real.  With all of the oil spills and nuclear reactors also
spilling into the oceans, why is it hard to believe that some sort of marine life has mutated and
become this massive creature?  I’m not hoping for a violent, HOST-like creature to start taking
victims, but I’d love to see something akin to the tales of dragons from all through history.  It’d be
pretty cool.

P.S.  I’m going to have discussion with UFF alum/winner Neil Rowe, as he is a VFX artist, and
based on those talks, I’ll definitely update this topic.
